Historical Context

In September 2018 Nvidia launched the GeForce RTX 2080, the first consumer GPU capable of real-time ray tracing, priced at $699. The Ada Lovelace-based RTX 40-series, released from late 2022, added DLSS 3 and higher ray-tracing performance, prompting IO Interactive to build 007 First Light on that hardware. Anticipating similar demands, Nintendo postponed the Switch 2 launch to fine-tune its own ray-tracing support.
