Steve Jobs Honored on New American Innovation $1 Coin

On May 12 2026 the United States Mint will begin public sales of the 2026 American Innovation $1 coin honoring Steve Jobs as California’s representative. The design shows a young Jobs before an oak-covered Northern California landscape, with the inscriptions “Steve Jobs” and “Make Something Wonderful.” The coin is offered in rolls of 25 or bags of 100, priced at $2.44 per coin for rolls and $1.55 per coin for bags.

The American Innovation $1 Coin Program, launched in 2018, issues a one-dollar coin for each state, the District of Columbia, and five territories to celebrate groundbreaking innovations. Past designs have honored the lightbulb (New Jersey), the Hubble Space Telescope (Maryland), and George Washington Carver (Missouri). In 2026 California’s coin joins those honoring Dr. Norman Borlaug (Iowa), the Cray-1 supercomputer (Wisconsin) and mobile refrigeration (Minnesota). Governor Gavin Newsom announced the Jobs design on May 11 2026, and the Mint confirmed the May 12 public release.

The Mint will produce 25,950 Steve Jobs $1 coins. Rolls of 25 sell for $61 ($2.44 each) and bags of 100 for $154.50 ($1.55 each), with a limit of ten rolls or ten bags per household. Earlier state coins have celebrated the Polio vaccine (Pennsylvania) and the International Space Station (Texas).

Orders open on the United States Mint website on May 12 2026. Buyers can choose Denver or Philadelphia minting locations, and the limited-quantity release is expected to sell out quickly, paving the way for the remaining state coins slated for later in 2026.
