U.S. CPI Rises
- U.S. consumer prices rose 3.8 percent in April 2026, the increase since May 2023.
- Labor Department said the rise stemmed from energy costs that rose 3.8 percent month-over-month and 18 percent year-over-year.
- AAA reported gasoline above $4.50 per gallon, diesel nearly doubled, and Core CPI rose 2.8 percent YoY in April.
- The CPI rise weakens the case for Federal Reserve (Fed) rate cuts, expected only in 2027 as Kevin Warsh prepares to replace Jerome H. Powell.
