Historical Context

In 2008 Barack Obama won Nebraska’s 2nd congressional district by 1.22% (about 3,370 votes), delivering the state’s first split electoral vote ever and the first Democratic vote there since 1964. The district’s narrow swing persisted; Mitt Romney reclaimed all three votes in 2012, and today Republican Don Bacon and Democrats contest the 2026 race with heavy fundraising.
