Historical Context

In May 2012 SpaceX launched Dragon C2+, the first commercial craft to rendezvous, berth with and return cargo from the ISS, completing the flight in six days and proving refurbished capsules could be reused. The May 15 2026 CRS-34 splashdown off California repeats that model, using a refurbished Dragon to down-mass experiments as NASA moves to fully commercial low-Earth-orbit services after the shuttle era.
