Sweden Orders Frigates
- Sweden awarded a $5 billion contract to France’s Naval Group to build four frigates, with deliveries from Lorient starting in 2030.
- Each ship costs about 10 billion kronor ($1.1 billion) and will use Saab systems, securing jobs in Swedish yards.
- The deal excludes British Babcock International and Spanish Navantia, which also bid.
- The frigates will extend Sweden’s offshore patrol capability as its 32nd NATO member since March 2024.
