Historical Context

In 2007 Putin warned that Russia was developing hypersonic weapons able to change trajectory. After a successful 2016 glide-vehicle test, he unveiled the Avangard HGV on 1 March 2018, a Mach 27 system placed into serial production and combat duty by 2019. The 2026 Oreshnik missile strike on Kyiv shows the same glide technology Russia now uses to challenge European defenses.
