The Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Act 2025 created an offence for endangering others during a sea journey from France, Belgium or the Netherlands; Sudanese national Alnour Mohamed Ali pleaded guilty to piloting the boat that capsized on 9 April 2024, killing four migrants. He will be sentenced on 10 June 2026 alongside the first Afghan national convicted of abandoning a dinghy under the same law.
