Cambodia Launches Conciliation
- June 2 2026 Cambodia launched a United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) conciliation to settle its maritime dispute with Thailand.
- The dispute covers 26,000 sq km of the Gulf of Thailand, holding 12 trillion cubic feet of hydrocarbons valued at $300 billion.
- Thailand must name two conciliators within 21 days, after which they will choose a chair for a commission.
- Prime Minister Hun Manet said the filing protects Cambodia’s sovereignty and maritime rights.
