Cro-Mags Release “Wired for Chaos,” New Song After Six Years

NYC hardcore pioneers Cro-Mags released a new single titled “Wired for Chaos,” premiering today on Rolling Stone. The track appears on BLKIIBLK and is paired with a Rex Miller-directed video mixing live performance footage with behind-the-scenes clips from recent tours.

“Wired for Chaos” is Cro-Mags’ first new music since their album *In the Beginning* (2020). The title matches a documentary about frontman Harley Flanagan’s turbulent life. Flanagan began playing in bands at age eleven and has long been linked to New York’s punk and hardcore scenes, a career marked by addiction and violence.

The release follows a six-year gap since 2020, with an album slated for 2027. Cro-Mags will tour Europe June-August 2026 and appear at U.S. festivals Party Weekend (Daytona Beach, FL, Sept 26) and Aftershock (Sacramento, CA, Oct 4).

Flanagan says Cro-Mags bridge hardcore, metal, punk, and skinhead audiences, a cross-genre appeal he likens only to Motörhead. He notes that this blended fan base reflects the band's connection to multiple subcultures within alternative music.

Flanagan said the song opens with an aggressive metal intro suited to a UFC walk-in or video game, shifts to hardcore thrash, and ends with a heavy beat-down. He described the lyrics as exploring being ‘programmed and wired for chaos’ from birth, citing parental influence, trauma, and PTSD. He also noted pride in the video’s diverse audience, a rarity among modern bands.
