Kyrgyzstan Secures Seat
- On 3 June 2026 UN General Assembly elected Austria, Portugal, Kyrgyzstan, Trinidad and Tobago and Zimbabwe to the Security Council beginning 1 January 2027.
- Portugal received 134 votes, Austria 131, and Germany received 104 votes, losing the seat.
- Kyrgyzstan won the Asia-Pacific seat with 142 votes, its first seat on the Council.
- Zimbabwe and Trinidad and Tobago secured 182 and 181 votes as the Group of Latin American and Caribbean States (GRULAC) candidate.
