Jobless Claims Rise
- Initial jobless claims rose to 225,000 for the week ended May 30, the highest since February and above the 213,000 forecast.
- Continuing claims fell to 1.777 million for the week ended May 23, a drop of 8,000, leaving the unemployment rate at 1.2% and showing first-quarter labor costs up 1.8% QoQ, below the 2.5% estimate.
- Claims rose most in Kansas, Missouri and Illinois, and markets nudged rate-cut expectations higher while equities stayed contained.
