U.S. Employment Rises
- The U.S. added 172,000 jobs in May 2026, keeping unemployment at 4.3%.
- Revised payroll data raised March and April job gains by 93,000, bringing the two-month total to 393,000.
- Leisure and hospitality added 70,000 jobs, local government 55,000, health care 35,000 and construction 17,000.
- Financial activities shed 22,000 jobs, while wages rose 5.6% for higher-income, 3.5% for middle-income and 3.1% for lower-income, the fastest lower-income gain since January 2025.
