Historical Context

The 2006 Lebanon War ended when the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 1701 on 11 August 2006, establishing a buffer south of the Litani River and deploying about 12,000 UNIFIL peacekeepers alongside 15,000 Lebanese soldiers. Although the cease-fire halted large-scale fighting, Hezbollah has since amassed an estimated 120,000–200,000 rockets, keeping the border volatile today.
