Education Ministry Revamps
- The Ministry of Education says Chinese universities cut or suspended over 12,200 undergraduate programs from 2021-2025, affecting more than 30% of all programs.
- Simultaneously, they launched about 10,200 new programs focused on artificial intelligence, brain-computer interfaces, agricultural robotics, digital finance and carbon-neutrality science.
- Officials cite graduate unemployment and a target of over 12 million graduates per year as reasons, while critics warn the shift could weaken humanities and arts education.
