The UN Security Council will meet on Monday June 15 at 6:30 p.m. Kabul time to vote on extending the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) mandate.
UNAMA’s current mandate expires on June 16, following a three-month renewal granted on March 16 2026.
Acting head Georgette Gagnon told the Council the situation in Afghanistan is “bad.”
If the Council does not approve an extension, the mission’s operational framework will have to be reconsidered.
