UNSC Extends UNAMA
- The UN Security Council unanimously extended the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) mandate until 17 June 2027.
- China’s ambassador Fu Cong drafted the resolution, urging counterterrorism cooperation and requesting a UNAMA review with a report due by March 2027.
- U.S. representative Jennifer Locetta welcomed the review and urged the Taliban to meet counterterrorism commitments.
- Russian representative Anna Evstigneeva said the review should coordinate with Afghan authorities and focus on development needs.
