BOJ Rate Hike
- The Bank of Japan (BOJ) raised its policy rate to 1 % from 0.75 % on 16 June 2026 after a 7-1 vote without Governor Kazuo Ueda.
- The BOJ said rising crude-oil prices from the Iran-war shock pushed wholesale inflation to 6.3 % in May and could drive inflation above its 2 % target.
- It paused its bond-taper programme after April 2027, will keep buying about 2 trillion yen of JGBs each month while the Nikkei 225 rose above 70,000.
