Ukraine Strikes Sanctioned Russian Shadow-Fleet Tanker FINA A and Key Logistics Infrastructure

Ukraine’s General Staff announced that on 16 June and into the early hours of 17 June 2026, Ukrainian forces hit the sanctioned Russian tanker FINA A in the Black Sea and simultaneously struck two road bridges, a command-and-observation post, a command post, and multiple drone-control stations across occupied territories and Russia’s Kursk region.

FINA A (IMO 9283306) is a 244.6-m, 62 002-gt (109 637-dwt) tanker registered in Equatorial Guinea, classified under Russian authority and managed from Antigua & Barbuda. The vessel, sanctioned by the EU (May 20 2025), UK (July 2025), Ukraine (Dec 13 2025), Switzerland and Canada, was sailing between Anapa and Novorossiysk when hit. The strike also damaged a bridge over the North Crimean Canal near Stavky, a bridge near Voinka, a command-and-observation post and a command post in Velyka Novosilka, and drone-control sites in Kamianske, Novoprokopivka, Ivanopillia, Komar, Oleshky, Maliivka and Korovyakivka/Kucherovo. Russian seaborne oil-product exports fell 15 % in early June to ~3.3 million t, with diesel from Primorsk down 18 %; the tanker’s AIS switched to “not under command” after the attack.

The General Staff said the operation “aimed to disrupt Russian logistics, troop-movement routes and battlefield coordination systems,” adding that the strikes hit “military logistics and command infrastructure supporting operations in occupied Ukrainian territories.” Unmanned Systems Forces commander Robert Brovdi said long-range drones breached Russian air-defence and electronic-warfare layers to strike 23 targets deep inside Russia. The staff said the tanker’s damage remains under assessment.

Ukrainian sources confirm the hit, but verification of the tanker’s damage is lacking and Russian officials have not responded. The AIS “not under command” signal shows loss of control, yet the vessel’s structural condition remains unknown.
