Japan Defends Yen
- On June 19 the yen hovered at ¥161.12 per dollar, its weakest level in four decades, spurring market watch for Ministry of Finance action.
- The Bank of Japan lifted its policy rate to 1.0%, the highest since 1995, without moving the yen from its low.
- Analysts project the Ministry of Finance will defend ¥161.95 by deploying about ¥11.7 trillion, roughly 11-12% of reserves.
