Israel’s 34-day 2006 Lebanon War began on 12 July 2006 and ended after UN Security Council Resolution 1701 forced a cease-fire, a diplomatic effort led by Iran, Syria and the United Nations. That precedent of multinational pressure informs today’s Pakistan-Qatar deconfliction cell, which seeks similar external leverage to curb the ongoing Lebanon campaign.
