Engineer-Designed Mobile Denture Lab Restores Smiles for America’s Uninsured

Connor Gibson, a 22-year-old engineer and dental technology manager at Remote Area Medical (RAM), built a mobile digital denture lab that prints custom dentures on site. The lab cuts the traditional three-month process to a few hours, letting patients leave the clinic with a complete set the same weekend.

Remote Area Medical, founded in 1985 by British-born humanitarian Stan Brock, runs volunteer-staffed mobile clinics that provide free dental, vision, and medical care. To date it has served over 1 million patients and delivered about $240 million in care, targeting the uninsured poor.

Engineer Connor Gibson, a self-taught 3D-printing student from Walter State Community College, joined RAM after watching Brock’s 2020 documentary.
