Starmer Bans Social Media
- UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on 15 June 2026 a ban on social-media for under-16s, to begin early 2027.
- The ban will block Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, Facebook, YouTube and X, but allow WhatsApp and Signal.
- It also prohibits livestreaming and stranger-contact on gaming services and imposes stricter age-verification.
- YouTube, Snapchat and Meta warned the ban could push teens to unregulated sites, while Cambridge researcher Amy Orben said enforcement will be incomplete.
