Katherine Legge Aims for Historic Indy 500–Coca-Cola 600 Double

Katherine Legge, 45, will race the 2024 Indianapolis 500 for A.J. Foyt Motorsports (car No. 11) and the Coca-Cola 600 for Live Fast Motorsports (car No. 78) on the same day, May 24. If she qualifies for both events, she would become the first woman—and possibly the first non-American—to complete the 1,100-mile double.

Since 1994, only five drivers have started both races in a single day. Tony Stewart is the sole driver to finish all 1,100 miles and place in the top six of both events (2001). Janet Guthrie failed to qualify for the Indy 500 in 1976 but raced the World 600 later that day, becoming the first woman on a NASCAR superspeedway and, the following year, the first woman to qualify for Indy. Kyle Larson’s most recent attempt was thwarted by a rain-delayed Indy 500 in 2024 and crashes in 2025, after which NASCAR tightened playoff-waiver rules for full-time drivers.

Legge is entering her fifth Indy 500; her best finish is 22nd (2012) and she placed 29th in 2023. Over the past two NASCAR Cup seasons she has started eight races, most recently finishing 35th at Watkins Glen. She is one of 33 drivers vying for the Indy field and one of 41 entrants competing for a 40-car spot in the Coca-Cola 600.
