SUMAC is recording the album Nine with producer Kurt Ballou, who has engineered Russian Circles since 2016’s Guidance.

Historical Context

Cathy Pellow launched Sargent House in 2006, quickly becoming a hub for experimental metal after re-issuing Maps & Atlases’ *Tree, Swallows, Houses* in 2007 and issuing the *You and Me and the Mountain* EP in July 2008. The label’s strategy of pairing avant-garde acts with extensive touring persisted, evident in its 2026 release of Russian Circles’ ninth album *Nine*.
