Israeli Forces Detain Palestinian Physician Dr. Mazen Al-Rantisi

On 23 June 2026 Israeli security forces raided Dr. Mazen Al-Rantisi’s home in al-Tira, Ramallah, and transferred him to a police station in the Israeli settlement of Ma’ale Adumim, where he is believed to be held by the Special Investigations Unit. Israeli authorities have not disclosed the legal basis for his detention or his location.

Dr. Mazen Al-Rantisi leads the Union of Health Work Committees, a Palestinian non-profit founded in 1985 that operates clinics serving thousands of patients each year. The Israeli military labeled the Union an “unlawful association” in 2020 and shut its Al-Bireh headquarters in 2022, though it remains registered with the Palestinian Authority. PHRI reports his Ramallah clinic treats “hundreds of patients.” B’Tselem notes that, as of March 2026, 9,446 Palestinians are detained by Israel, including 4,691 under administrative detention without charge. UN data show that since 2020 at least 1,100 Palestinian civilians, about 275 children, have been killed in the occupied West Bank.
