Driver Switch at the Travelers Championship
World No. 4 Matt Fitzpatrick used a Ping G430 LST driver for the first time in round 1 of the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands, Cromwell, Connecticut, on June 26, 2026. Fitting the Ping G430 LST
Ping fitter Oates said the G430 “provided the launch and spin Matt was looking for” and that the “neutral dot setting” maximized center-contact. Fitzpatrick prefers a heel-biased CG to promote a pull-draw and avoid right-ward flight. The 17-gram CG shifter was moved to the heel, an extra 3 g of hot-melt weight added to the heel, while a 6-g hot-melt head proved excessive. The final shaft is a Mitsubishi Tensei CK Orange 65TX.
Result at TPC River Highlands
Fitzpatrick posted a 6-under 64 with seven birdies, one bogey and a 331-yard drive on the 18th. He hit 13 of 14 fairways (93 % accuracy). He finished tied for second, one stroke behind leader Eric Cole. The driver change lifted him to eighth in strokes-gained: off-the-tee for the round, up from a 70th-place ranking at the U.S. Open’s final round.
