BIS Warns AI
- The Bank for International Settlements warned the $1 trillion AI boom could trigger a recession.
- It said weak AI returns could spark capital withdrawals and likened the cycle to the 1830s canal boom and the dot-com bubble, both ending in recessions.
- It warned household equity exposure and AI debt could depress consumption more than tech busts, flagged inflation and financial vulnerabilities, noted fiscal weakness, and did not call for rate hikes.
