EU Enforces Steel
- EU will enforce new steel safeguard measures on July 1, 2026 that halve duty-free import quotas and double tariffs.
- The duty-free quota is limited to 18.3 million metric tons annually—a 47 % cut—split evenly between EU free-trade-agreement partners (9.15 million tons) and other exporters such as China (9.15 million tons).
- The measures impose a 50 % duty on imports above the quota (up from 25 %) and grant Ukraine a special quota of about 1.05 million tons.
