House Standoff Over SAVE Act and Defense Bill

On Tuesday, fourteen Republican hard-liners joined all Democrats to defeat a procedural rule that would have merged the SAVE America Act with the NDAA. The vote fell 198-224, halting debate on the defense authorization and a commemorative resolution. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise voted “no,” and Speaker Mike Johnson sent the chamber home early for a second week.
