In February 2004 Chelsea paid Rennes £7 million for Petr Cech, then the club’s most expensive goalkeeper. After Carlo Cudicini’s early-season injury, manager José Mourinho installed Cech, who set a Premier League record of 1,025 minutes without conceding in 2004-05 and helped Chelsea win the title.
