Silverstone UTC Powers the Next Generation of Formula One Talent

Silverstone University Technical College (UTC) channels students aged 14-18 into Formula One roles. In 2025, 30 graduates entered motorsport positions, including Kian Brown, now a composite-machining apprentice at Mercedes, and Savannah Morgan, an advanced digital-machining apprentice at Cadillac.

Founded in 2013 to realise McLaren design engineer Neil Patterson’s vision, the UTC occupies a campus opposite the old start-finish straight at Silverstone. Land was donated by the British Racing Drivers’ Club and Silverstone Circuit, placing the school within Britain’s motorsport valley, home to eight F1 teams.
