European Commission Cuts
- European Commission announced quotas cutting duty-free steel imports by 47% to 18.3 million tonnes, adding a 50% duty on out-of-quota steel, and reserving half for free-trade partners while opening the rest to traders.
- The Commission targets 80% utilisation and Eurofer Director-General Axel Eggert expects utilisation to rise to 73-75% and recover 15 million tonnes.
- Eurofer said utilisation is near 67% amid weak demand and that many partners have provisionally accepted their allocations.
