In December 2025 White House created Freedom 250, a nonprofit arm of the National Park Foundation, to run the semiquincentennial. The National Park Foundation reported $68 million in Interior Department funds for Freedom 250. The White House, via spokesperson Davis Ingle, says the festivities will “display great patriotism.” The National Park Foundation says its standard audits will cover all Freedom 250 funds.
Opposition
Staff allege Freedom 250 misled donors, pressured corporate sponsors, and used “aggressive outreach” that confused contributions meant for America250. Watchdog groups cite the lack of donor transparency and the risk of foreign influence, while critics note the organization’s promotion of Christian-nationalist messaging.

The report does not quantify the diversion of America250 funds, referring only to a “large – and so far unaccounted for – sum.” Freedom 250 says its donor list is private, while Democrats demand full disclosure. No court ruling on wire-fraud or emoluments violations has been issued.
