Allegations of Trump Administration Hijacking of U.S. 250th Anniversary Celebrations

A Democratic-led interim report, “From Vanity to Insanity: How the White House Cheated the American People Out of Their 250th Birthday,” accuses President Donald Trump of turning the semiquincentennial into a partisan fundraising platform. The report says the White House created Freedom 250, an LLC under the National Park Foundation (NPF), placed campaign operatives Meredith O’Rourke and Chris LaCivita on the NPF board, and redirected resources meant for the bipartisan America250 commission.

The 2025 “One Big Beautiful Bill” allocated $150 million for the celebrations, with $100 million slated for America250. The report notes America250 has received only $25 million, while the NPF transferred $68 million to Freedom 250. Sponsorship tiers range from $500,000 to over $10 million and include a “historic photo opportunity” with Trump. Donors include Palantir, Lockheed Martin, Oracle, the UFC and Penske Corp. CEO Keith Krach is also alleged to have solicited foreign officials at the World Economic Forum.

Freedom 250 spokesperson Danielle Alvarez called the report “categorically false” and a “partisan smear.” The NPF said its audit processes will account for all public and private funds and that donor anonymity will be respected when requested, per CEO Jeff Reinbold. House Natural Resources ranking member Rep. Jared Huffman described the investigation as exposing “red flags” and warned that oversight could proceed if Democrats regain the House.

Critics say Freedom 250 pushes a Christian agenda. Huffman warned the effort “airbrushes out slavery, Native American genocide, and secular ideals on which our government was founded.” Young MC, a performer at Great American State Fair, called the event a “bait and switch.” Alan Zibel called the alleged donor misdirection “very troubling.” Artists such as Martina McBride were told events were nonpartisan before they were rebranded as Trump rallies; “Freedom Trucks” displayed PragerU and Hillsdale College content distorts historical facts.

The interim report has not been adopted, and committee members have declined oversight. Freedom 250 maintains that no federal funds were earmarked for America250 and that diversion claims are “baseless.” The exact amount of any misdirected money remains unverified, and donor identities are concealed.
