In the June 2026 Democratic primaries, DSA-endorsed candidates won nine of ten New York City races, including mayor Zohran Mamdani, and unseated a 15-term incumbent, Melat Kiros, in Colorado’s Denver-area congressional district.
Growth
After Bernie Sanders’ 2016-2020 runs, DSA’s New York chapter rose from 5,900 members in late 2024 to about 14,000 before the primary, adding 900. It reports over 200 chapters and more than 100,000 members nationwide.
