In March 2019 Tesla unveiled the Model Y crossover and started production at Fremont in January 2020. The vehicle became the world’s best-selling EV, reaching over 2.16 million cumulative sales and delivering 1.2 million units in 2023. Leveraging that success, Tesla introduced the six-seat Model Y L in China in June 2025 (deliveries Sep 2 2025) and in the United States in July 2026.
