Marine Gains Citizenship

Two historic Independence Day naturalizations were held at Washington’s Mount Vernon and Jefferson’s Monticello, marking the 250th birthday.
On July 4, 2026, 150 at Mount Vernon and 74 at Monticello took the Oath of Allegiance, becoming U.S. citizens.
U.S. Marine Sergeant Diakaria Sangare, Guinea native, received citizenship in dress blues and saluted flag.
Historian Douglas Bradburn noted Washington’s 250-year-old tulip poplar and said new citizens’ stories join history.

Spanberger Encourages Citizenship

Governor Abigail Spanberger addressed the Monticello ceremony, urging participants to embody America’s founding ideals.
Thirteen citizens took the oath at a ceremony at Genesee Country Village and Museum in Wheatland, New York on July 4, 2026.
Karren Torrey, a Philippines-born immigrant, said the ceremony felt exciting and expressed gratitude.
Annette Ramos of Monroe County Elections said the citizenship process is costly and needs sponsors.
