UK Government Acts on Historic Medomsley Youth Custody Abuse Scandal

Sentencing and youth-justice minister Jake Richards announced a government-wide safeguarding review to prevent a repeat of the abuse at Medomsley detention centre in County Durham. In November, prisons and probation ombudsman Adrian Usher released a report on the abuse, leading to a government apology and the commissioning of a safeguarding review overseen by minister Jake Richards and chief social worker Isabelle Trowler.
