Phoebe Bridgers Announces “Lost Weekend,” First Solo Album in Six Years

Phoebe Bridgers announced her first solo album since 2020’s *Punisher* on May 31, 2024, titling it *Lost Weekend*. The record drops on August 14, 2024—three days before her 32nd birthday—and features 16 tracks, making it her longest solo release to date. The announcement followed a series of phone-free pop-up shows that opened in Roswell, New Mexico on May 8 and closed with a sold-out concert at Madison Square Garden on June 4.

*Lost Weekend* arrives after the critical success of *Punisher* and a 2023 *boygenius* tour, during which Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus have frequently appeared on each other’s solo projects. The pop-up concerts incorporated a space-themed stage, echoing Bridgers’ long-standing fascination with extraterrestrial imagery.

The album expands Bridgers’ usual team. Longtime partners Tony Berg and Ethan Gruska co-produced the lead single “Lost Boys.” New contributors include Jack Antonoff (drums, programming, guitar, synths, vocoder), comedian Bo Burnham (co-writer), and Alex G (drums, voice memo). Bright Eyes members Mike Mogis (mixing) and Nate Walcott (trumpet) appear, while *boygenius* bandmates Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus provide backing vocals on “Lost Boys.”

Fine-art photographer Gregory Crewdson shot the tour flyer, noting an “alliance” between his aesthetic and Bridgers’ world. Album cover art was captured by Olof Grind, and the two-LP vinyl set will include a 20-page lyric booklet. Fans at the pop-up shows found puzzle pieces in Yondr device-blocking patches; the pieces were later confirmed not to form the cover. Merchandise continues the space motif, with astronomy-coded t-shirts and vinyl variants like “Enceladus Geysers.”

Bridgers said she feels a strong mutual admiration with her *boygenius* collaborators and that she is more at ease when performing with them. She also indicated that the album’s title could be a nod to John Lennon’s 1973 “Lost Weekend,” describing him as a preeminent influence for artists such as Elliott Smith and Daniel Johnston. Crewdson explained that his participation was motivated by a shared sense of mystery and loneliness between his photography and Bridgers’ music.
