Anthropic Expands Claude Cowork to Mobile and Web

Anthropic sampled 1.2 million anonymized Cowork sessions from over 600 000 organizations in late May. Business-process operating comprised 33.4 % of usage, content creation 16.4 %, and software development only 8.7 %. Overall, more than 90 % of sessions were unrelated to coding, underscoring the tool’s focus on non-technical work.
Criticism
Security analysts have warned that autonomous agents can be vulnerable to prompt-injection attacks and other breaches. Wired highlighted the risk of “prompt injections or other security breaches,” while ZDNet noted user discomfort with approving AI-driven decisions from a phone, describing the experience as “clarifying something to an AI… from atop the porcelain throne.”
Impact
The expansion signals a broader shift toward embedding AI agents directly into everyday workflows. By moving beyond a developer-centric model, Anthropic positions itself against OpenAI’s Codex-derived tools, which are also being repurposed for reports, spreadsheets, and research. Controlling the digital workspace where tasks are initiated and completed may become a decisive competitive advantage for AI firms.
Future
Anthropic plans to merge Claude’s chat and Cowork interfaces into a single “Projects & Artifacts” hub across web and desktop.
