Iridium Completes Full Acquisition of Aireon
On July 6 2026 Iridium Communications Inc. bought the remaining 61 percent of Aireon LLC, making the air-traffic surveillance provider a wholly-owned subsidiary. The remaining stake was purchased from air navigation service providers in Canada, England, Denmark, Ireland and Italy. The purchase was announced at $367 million in one report and $366.7 million in another.
Background
Aireon operates the only space-based ADS-B system, providing real-time global aircraft positions since 2019. Iridium previously owned 39 percent and supplied the satellite link for the service.
Deal Terms
The acquisition was financed with a $183.36 million zero-interest seller loan secured by Aireon equity, plus an amendment to an existing $175 million term loan, now $154.7 million outstanding, maturing Oct 10 2028 with interest at SOFR + 6.25 percent (or base + 5.25 percent). Iridium also issued an unsecured parent guarantee, consolidating Aireon’s debt.
