Historical Context

In July 2006 Hezbollah’s cross-border raid sparked a 34-day war in which Israel’s ground offensive failed to capture Bint Jbeil, a symbolic Hezbollah stronghold. UN Security Council Resolution 1701 ended hostilities and deployed UNIFIL, but the town remained contested. In July 2026 Israeli forces again entered Bint Jbeil, reviving the town’s strategic relevance.
