Manley Urges Reforestation

CONFOR chair Nigel Manley warned the UK imports millions of cubic metres of timber and urged expanding productive woodland in Northern Ireland.
The Carbon Budget (2023-2027) states that 2,585 ha of woodland are pledged, another 1,205 ha is required, and 50,000 ha needed to meet the 2050 Climate Change Act goal of 12 % forest cover.
Representatives said the programme could ease the housing shortage, supply domestic timber, create rural jobs and attract investment.
