Album Announcement and Release Details

Los Angeles indie-rock quartet Jawdropped revealed that their first full-length, *Secret To Spare*, will be released on 18 September through Transgressive Records and Canvasback. The record comprises ten tracks and follows the band’s recent appearance at The Great Escape festival.

Tracklist and Lead Single

The lead single “Split Lip” premiered alongside a video directed by Rob Fraebel. The official tracklist is: 1. “The Line,” 2. “Monday,” 3. “Split Lip,” 4. “Cellulite,” 5. “High Beams,” 6. “Cup,” 7. “Smoglight,” 8. “Pitch Black,” 9. “Whiplash,” 10. “Two.”

Creative Vision and Themes (Official Statements)

Frontman Roman Zangari explained that the album draws on stories heard in Los Angeles bars and the mixed fortunes of aspiring artists. He said the band self-produced the record with engineer Colin Knight and mixed it with Alex Farrar to capture a “live-room” feel. Zangari emphasized that the songs balance youthful excitement with the harsh reality of being “still broke” and uncertain about future success.

Upcoming Tour Dates

Jawdropped will support Soccer Mommy and This Is Lorelei on a U.S. run before heading to Europe. Dates include Denver (7 September), Columbus (22 September), Indianapolis (23 September), Los Angeles (2 October), New York (8 October), followed by festival appearances in Rotterdam, Berlin, Amsterdam, Gent, Sheffield, London, Southampton, Bristol, Nantes, and Paris through early November.

Verbatim Quotes

  • “L.A. is this destination that so many people move to with a dream of having this exciting life in the arts,” — Roman Zangari, Singer/Guitarist
  • “It’s about being in a band and struggling to keep your shit in check. You spend your whole life as a musician striving for success and hoping to experience all these things that the four of us were experiencing for the first time. This song weighs out the excitement of that with the underwhelming reality of it all: we’re still broke, there’s no guarantee that any of this is going to lead to anything. How do you know that these decisions you’ve made are going to pan out in the future?” — Roman Zangari
  • “We wanted it to sound like a band in a room, so we recorded live and tried not to water down what we do,” — Roman Zangari
  • “The band’s own Roman Zangari had this to say about what inspired him whilst writing the album: I’m always writing based off of things that I hear, or something that happened to a friend.” — Kyra Morling, Singer/Guitarist
  • “We wanted to capture the essence of how we play live – the unfiltered Jawdropped sound.” — Roman Zangari
