Milwaukee’s starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff, 33, was placed on the 15-day injured list on Saturday after exiting his third start since returning from a cyst-removal surgery. An MRI scan identified a fresh injury to the anterior capsule of his right shoulder—the same structure surgically repaired by Dr. Keith Meister in October 2023. The Brewers will send Woodruff to Dr. Meister for a second medical opinion before deciding on a treatment plan.

Woodruff’s 2023 season ended with surgery to repair the anterior capsule, followed by a multi-year rehabilitation that delayed his major-league return until July 2024. Since then, he has logged a 2.98 ERA in nine starts but has endured three setbacks: a right lat strain in September 2023 that ended his playoff run, a minor cyst-removal operation in April 2024 that kept him on the injured list for nearly two months, and two starts this season in which his velocity dropped sharply against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
