Prime Video Unveils Italian Psychological Thriller “Un’Altra Madre”

Amazon MGM Studios announced during its Italy upfront in Rome that “Un’Altra Madre” (“Another Mother”) is entering production as a Prime Video Original. The film stars Sabrina Impacciatore, known for “The White Lotus” (Season 2), and Alessandro Borghi, noted for “The Eight Mountains.” Directed by Francesco Carrozzini, the project is a co-production with Lucky Red and Genesis and will stream worldwide on Prime Video upon completion.

Impacciatore portrays Olga, a therapist who runs an exclusive therapeutic community for trauma survivors in a remote countryside farmhouse. Her son Lorenzo (Francesco Gheghi) is described as “fragile and troubled, bound to her by a deeply complex and intimate relationship.” Borghi joins as Tommaso, an enigmatic patient whose knowledge of “long-buried and unspeakable secrets” destabilizes the group’s fragile equilibrium, pushing the narrative toward a “reckoning” where “the line between healing and madness becomes increasingly blurred.”

The film marks a tonal shift for Impacciatore, moving away from the “goofy, exuberant persona” of her recent roles. Prime Video’s investment reflects its broader strategy to expand original Italian content, complementing other slated projects such as the heist-comedy “Masterplan,” the romantic comedy “Blame It on Rome,” and the series “Bro.” These titles illustrate the platform’s aim to diversify its Italian slate across genres.
