Harold & Kumar 4 Moves Toward Production

Producer Greg Shapiro announced at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival on Tuesday (07Jul26) that a fourth Harold & Kumar film is in active development. He said the screenplay is being written and that “everybody’s back – the actors, the writers – the writers are directing,” adding that shooting could begin “soon.” The announcement follows Lionsgate’s June 2025 confirmation that writers-directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg will helm the sequel, with Josh Heald also credited as a writer and Shapiro returning as producer.

The series began with *Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle* (2004), a cult comedy that spawned *Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay* (2008) and *A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas* (2011). The films follow Korean-American Harold Lee (John Cho) and Indian-American Kumar Patel (Kal Penn) on outlandish adventures, with Neil Patrick Harris playing a fictionalized version of himself in each installment. Collectively the three movies earned roughly $102.8 million against a $40 million budget.
