In July 1910 Henri Desgrange finally allowed Adolphe Steinès’s route survey to add the Pyrenees, letting Octave Lapize win the first Tour to include the mountains, contested over 15 stages (3–31 July). A century later the 2024 Tour, organized by Amaury Sport Organisation, saw Stage 6 hit 40 °C, forcing Torstein Traeen and Cian Uijtdebroeks to abandon, reviving safety concerns first raised after the brutal 1910 climbs.
