Historical Context

UN Resolution 598 in July 1987 led the US to launch Operation Earnest Will (24 July 1987 – 26 September 1988) to protect Kuwaiti tankers from Iranian missile attacks. The convoy escorted many vessels and more than 100 sailors were killed.
