Trump Targets Aircraft Imports
- President Donald Trump signed a July 9 2026 proclamation directing the Trade Representative and Commerce Department to negotiate aircraft and jet-engine parts imports.
- Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick’s Section 232 report said the imports threaten national security because of foreign subsidies, predatory practices and supply-chain control.
- The proclamation imposes no tariffs but permits “other actions” after 180 days if talks fail and requires a cabinet report within six months.
